The Race Winner Alonso.

The lights were so bright that it felt as though it was daytime. The Paddock Club was filled to the brim and yet the beer was so cold that I could not help myself from getting drunk. The noise did not help though as the cars sped past underneath us and created such a vibration that the beer was frothing all the time. An experience that should not have been missed. A part of history in the making.

Singapore under lights with a bumpy track, high kerbs and the usual close barriers made the race more a safety car poker following Nelson Piquet’s crash.

While Felipe Massa lost the most, Fernando Alonso came out with a surprise win, followed by Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton.

The Friday and Saturday practice live on TV gave the audience a glimpse of a floodlit track. All credit to Italian Engineer Valerio Maioli, whose 1,500 light projectors wired with 110km of cable powered by three projectors generating more than a billion watts turning night into day.

While the 22-cornered track boasts of a quick 290km at Turn 6, it is also hard on the carbon disc brakes that take heat up to 800 degrees nearly 16 times during a lap.

At the close of the qualifier, Massa beat his Championship Rival by six-tenths to P1 and was posed to finish 1 point more than Lewis in the table.

For race winner Fernando, a fuel pump issue led to him not setting a time in Q2 forcing him to start at P15.

Kimi, whose championship chances have practically slipped out of his hands, started P3, but who knew that his bad luck would dog him to a nil-point finish for the fourth time in a row?

Felipe Massa had led the race from start and built a lead over Lewis, till his compatriot and Renault driver Piquet crashed into the barriers, calling for a safety car period that continued into the first pit-stop window.

Felipe, Lewis and Kimi entered the pits and as the lights on turned green, Massa took off but with the fuel nozzle attached till the end of the pit lane. Ferrari engineers sprinted and pulled the nozzle out, but his race was finished.

Fernando was the happiest registering, what could possibly be the only win of the year, obviously because he luckily pitted before the safety car came out. Things couldn’t get any better for Renault registering a win after nearly two years and the first at night!

All said and done, I hope F1 limits itself to traditional tracks with adequate run-off areas. It is really not funny to see cars crashing into them, inviting safety cars, and lucky finishes!

A season that has seen seven different race winners from five teams ends in another three races. In the two-horse race, Lewis just extended his lead. He now has 84 points to Felipe’s 77 after the latter’s zero-point Singapore sojourn.

I cant wait to see what will happen at the Abu Dhabi GP 2009. Set to be at the Yas Island Circuit. Beautifully landscaped and designed to be so thrilling that I cant stop imagining being there now.

Formula 1 GP Corporate Hospitality

I have been thinking lately. I joined a company called THG which is under the company called Marcus Evans. Now this guy Marcus is a multi millionaire who also owns the Ipswich Football Club. He made his fortune selling corporate hospitality for major sporting events around the globe.

His idea was very simple yet effective. CEO’s need to entertain their major clients. How do they do this? Bringing them out for simple dinners or even to have drinks at an expensive restaurant wont suffice.

He actually got sporting events such as Formula 1 and got hospitality at the nearest hotels to the event place. He created the event in the simplest of manner and was able to sell these events for huge profits. Now how much do you think the most expensive ticket to watch the race would be? He does not even get these tickets. The hospitality is always outside of the event space thus creating a maner for the CEO’s to talk and entertain their clients at a controlled environment.

The coming Singapore GP is being sold at USD 34,500 per table of 10 which comes with free drinks , vip speaker, food and many more but the costing of doing this is only 25% of the selling price. He makes tonnes of money creating these events. Now he has about 6 offices around the globe.

Why cant we normal people think of doing such things. Cheat the CEO’s out of their entertainment fund. They have a lot of it to spend anyway. If anyone comes out with such an idea next time please do let me know. I would love to invest.

acabion-gtbo-worlds-fastest-on-the-road-vehicle-290208.jpg

Acabion GTBO - a jet-fighter-shaped vehicle has claimed the title of world’s fastest road vehicle. Acabion GTBO can reach 300 mph within 30 seconds only and its top speed is 340 mph. This vehicle is considered as the fusion of a four wheeler. On each side of the rear wheel are two mini wheels. The creator of this two wheeler calls it a “road streamliner”.

The body of this super fast vehicle is shaped like a jet figther. Basically the entire design is taking from aerodynamic techniques used in aerospace design, such as the cockpit is designed like one found in jet plane. The GTBO is about 90mph quicker than its nearesr rival, the Bugatti Veyron, which needs 55 seconds to pick up to its top speed, 250mph.

The GTBO carries an astonishing 800 brake horsepower in its 1,300cc turbo-charged engine. And it amazingly weighs just 700lbs, which is only half the weight of an original Mini. Having light weight body is definitely part of the purposes to maximize its power and to be aerodymanically efficient.

The creator of this super fast vehicle is a German, Dr Peter Maskus, who is an ex-Porsche engineer. But it seems like it will take about three years to hit the roads of UK and the USA. And somemore carrying a whopping price of £1.5million or $3 million.

What a cool GPS device but it is also a phone. When you think of Garmin, definitely you’ll relate it with GPS devices. But now, Garmin has a role to play in the cellphone or smart phone market. Their newly announced smart phone, nüvifone, is a phone equipped well with all the GPS functions that you will surely need in a big city in order not to go missing. Some people claim this Garmin’s new smart phone looks like iPhone because of the touch screen UI resembles what iPhone has.

The nüvifone smartphone supports full-fledged GSM HSDPA, runs on its own properitary OS and of course loaded with GPS navigation as the core. Besides, it’s also equipped with email and web browsing functionalities and also a built-in camera (Does it support geo-tagging?). It sports a 3.5-inch LCD display. And equipped with wireless capabilities including WiFi and Bluetooth.

Other eatures at a glance

• Google local search
• Garmin Online services - traffic, weather, fuel prices, hotel discounts, etc.
• nuvi-like navigation on the road or in pedestrian mode
• Email, text, IM functions
• Camera, video camera, MP3 and MPEG4/AAC

No info on the pricing and carrier. But Garmin promises to deliver it in the 3rd quarter and says the PND market is not dying yet and the phone sure will have a role to play.

trev-three-wheeled-green-car-meant-for-urban-trips-only-230108.jpg

Trev is a three-wheeled environmentally friendly car, a product out of several years of effort by the students at the University of South Australia. Trev is ideal as a commuter vehicle. It consumes only 1/5 of the energy required by a conventional car, which relies on electricity as the only power source. Trev weighs only 595 pounds, has two seats only and can drive up to 93 city miles without having to be recharged.

Trev is equipped with only two seats as it’s meant for urban use, as most urban trips are made with one or two people in the car. The top speed of the Trev is only 75 MPH, which seems to be pretty limited for urban trips. Anyway, it’s still a prototype, which still has couple of rooms for improvement.

I hope that this car really gets into the market and fast. It looks so cool and especially the fact that it is Green is such a crowd attraction that it will surely give me some girls :0 .. Man I have goosebumps thinking about it already.

Owning an iPhone has always made me think that I am the best geek in town with the latest iPhone but today it has really blown me out of my seat.

Above-sea ride sends inventor over the moon
Flying boat? The one thousand and one question that comes into my mind is “Why do you need a boat that flies? Isn’t it a boat supposed to sail on water?”. Whether you like it or not, New Zealand inventor Rudy Heeman has created a flying boat that basically flies at a level of 1.5m above water instead of sailing on the water.

The guy spent about 800 hours in building this flying vehicle boat. And he’s been recklessly testing this flying vehicle boat. Anyway, this flying boat or vehicle doesn’t need you to have a pilot’s license to fly it , as it can’t rise above what’s called “ground effect” and is considered to be a maritime craft and falls under maritime law. That’s why it should be called a flying boat, and also it uses an air cushion which relies on water. The best is it definitely lets you travel in much higher speed than the boat that sails on water, as this flying boat can reach a speed of 98kmh.

Ford GT Gas Powered RC

Gas-powered RC Ford GT Replica reaches 60MPH, almost a third of Ford GT's top speed!
Yes, the need for speed! It’s no joke. A remote controlled car isn’t kid’s matter anymore! This gas-powered RC car can reach speeds of 60MPH. Such a high-speed toy seems to be inappropriate to classify it as a toy or perhaps it would be more appropriate for you instead of for your kids. To control such as a high-speed RC car surely needs some skills or at least with firm and steady hands, which I think it’s simply not so easy for kids.

This RC car is a 1 to 5 scale replica of Ford GT. A Ford GT is well known for its speed on the road, which can reach a top speed around 200MPH or more. But this 1 to 5 replica is almost touching one third of the top speed of a real Ford GT. This RC car comes complete with an assembled chassis, 3-Channel FM Radio with built-in Fail-Safe mode. The car also sports 23cc engine, a 450cc fuel tank and a 15kg metal gear ratio. The 2WD and disc brakes make for better stopping. This RC car runs on a mixture of unleaded gasoline and 2-stroke oil.
