Paperless Fax The USB Way

Posted by Ancient1  Published in Boys Toys, Ideas, Inventions, PC Management, USB Gadgets

usb-digital-paperless-fax-compatible-with-windows-vista-090308.jpg

It has been quite a while now that I have actually really used a fax machine. All my faxes comes through my PC. There are so many ways of doing this. But here is the latest.

These days we all do our work on our computers. All documents are in the form of soft copy. But when coming to faxing the documents. It’s somehow pretty inconvenient especially for geeks like us who hate papers being scatted around. But we surely have to admit that not everyone in the society has adopted online services such as emails, e-fax, web etc. There is really no choice, in order to suit the other group of people who’re still in the dark side of Information Technology, we’ll have to print the documents in hard copy and fax over using a fax machine.

Here comes the USB digital fax, which is a device that you just hook it up to your computer’s USB port. And whatever documents that you’ve finished typing, and ready to fax, then you can just fax it over using this USB digital fax, without needing to print the document on paper. The USB digital fax comes with bundled software applications to manage your faxes too. It turns your computer into a completely paperless fax machine, which you can receive and send fax through it without any hassle.

As shown in the diagram above, the USB digital fax comes with a phone jack port, which allows you to hook it up to a fixed telephone line. And then you hook the device to your computer’s USB port.

Iona Cube - Internet Whiz Radio

Posted by Ancient1  Published in Boys Toys

The little cube shown to you here is known as the Iona Cube, which is actually a compact cube packed with Internet radio function. The Iona Cube is equipped with WiFi connectivity which lets you hook up to any WiFi network to receive Internet radio. The gadget is a concept design of Cambridge consultants, which the intention is to clam the Internet radio function into a simple little cube with low-cost design. And it allows users to access up to 10,000 Internet radio stations.

iona-cube-a-concept-internet-radio-cube-070308.jpg

Operating the radio such as switching programme channels is easy, which you just have turn the Iona Cube onto one of its four sides to change to the pre-programed radio station. The fifth side is where the speaker is mounted and the sixth side is for you to turn on or off this radio cube.

The Iona Cube gives the complete different experience from operating traditional radios which mostly deal with “push buttons”. This cube definitely simplifies the way that users select Internet radio stations. And the cube also allows customization via its web interface. The cube definitely eliminates the hassle as seen in traditional Internet radio which users have to scroll endless list of stations. So, using this cube, they’ll just simply flip it. The entire design of this radio cube is focused on the simplicity, so it ain’t even come with a volume button. But no worry, you’ll still be able to adjust its volume by twisting the cube to the right to increase the volume. And twisting to the left to decrease it.

Carry Your Wizplat NAS-20 Everywhere

Posted by Ancient1  Published in Boys Toys, Inventions, PC Management, Technology

wizplat-nas-20-a-nas-ready-to-carry-anywhere-in-your-house-080308.jpgwizplat-nas-20-a-nas-ready-to-carry-anywhere-you-go-080308.jpg

Firstly this is how it looks from the ad then the bottom is how it actually looks from the back of it.

Sarotech’s new NAS (Network Attached Storage) product - the WIZPLAT NAS-20 is nothing unusual with its features compared to any other average NAS. The NAS-20 comes loaded with various common network services including FTP, SAMBA Server, Printer Server etc, which mostly can be found on other NAS products too.

But the little uniqueness that will pull little of your attention is its design. The NAS-20 is designed like a carrying bag with two handles on top. Meaning that you can freely carry around anywhere in your home. While carrying this on the road, no one would have noticed that you’re actually carrying a storage that stores most of your very important and highly confidential data.

This 2-bay NAS box supports a pair of SATA disks giving you a maximum of storage at 2TB. And it supports Gigabit Ethernet to give you high speed transfer of data at your playground. It features a pair of USB jacks. Other than the few network services mentioned before, it also has built-in iTunes and even a BitTorrent server which will replace your home PC to take on the overly tiring task of your 7 x 24 downloading scheme. The product is still unclear with its price and availability.

Philips Gives Me A Hard One

Posted by Ancient1  Published in Boys Toys, Gaming Consoles, Home Improvement

I have always been a fan of the Philips home theatre system. I have been buying Philips electrical system in nearly all my home appliances. From the kitchen all the way to bedroom stuff. I recently bought the Philips 47″ full HD LCD TV which is a very new model here in Malaysia. But not even 4 months down the road and now the latest system gives me a hard on. With my LCD TV I also bought the Cineos HTS 8100 which at the time was the best in a box home theatre system but now lets have a look .

hts9800w.jpg

Home theaters in a box are not for everyone — most people we know prefer to assemble their entertainment systems piecemeal — but if you’re in the market for such a product, then Philips is offering a fairly stylish new HDMI-equipped system with convenient wireless rear speakers that may be right up your alley. The Cineos HTS9800W is a 6.1-channel package (three 125-watt fronts, three rears, and a 150-watt subwoofer) with a slimline, upscaling DVD player that supports DVD+/-R discs, DivX-encoded video, and MP3 CDs, along with all those Super Audio CDs that we’re sure you’ve been collecting over the years. Not a bad setup, especially for your bedroom or guest house, and it’s available now for around $650.

100inchlcd.jpg

The battle between LCD and plasma for domination of your media room may have just ended. LG.Philips has unveiled what they’re billing as the world’s largest LCD display, a 100-inch panel with a 5ms refresh, 3000:1 contrast ratio and 180 degree viewing angle. The new display bests the previous size leader, Samsung’s 82-incher, and is just three inches smaller than the largest plasma display, Panasonic’s 103-inch prototype. While none of these megascreens are going to show up in stores any time soon, they’re going to continue to put the squeeze on plasma displays, which are already hurting from a price perspective, as LCD prices continue to decline.

samsung-adidas-micoach-or-f110-a-fitness-centered-mobile-phone-060308.jpg

This is surely the gadget for the fitness concious people. The healthy diets and 1 hour jogging trip in itself wont work. But with this phone in hand you would know what is actually happening.

As far as I know Adidas is well known in producing sport wear or fitness products. What does Adidas have to do with mobile phone? Of course, these days, it wouldn’t be a surprise those specializing in fashion or sport wear products are venturing into cell phone business too. So, now Adidas and Samsung somehow have teamed up to produce cell phones. And their first product is known as miCoach (F110), which is a fitness-centered cell phone.

The miCoach is a quad-band slider phone that features a dedicated fitness button that furnishes you with the details of your heart beat, distance covered, and running time, when hooked up with a heart monitor or a step counter. You can view the running information by tapping the cellphone’s screen without needing to hook it up to a PC. It’s loaded with over 220 fitness programmes which you can choose from. And the cellphone will feedback to you with your heart beat rate whether you’re going too fast or too slow according to the chosen programme.

It has a screen size of 4.8 inch only, which is a LCD touchscreen having 800×480 of resolution. This little guy is equipped with 3.5G/HSDPA wireless connectivity which is a must for those who’re always on the road. It also features a 3Mpix camera, GPS, Bluetooth and a keyboard. Both are nice devices but the price and availability are still unknown.
