Encrypted Rings

The designer Sakura Koshimizu is specialized in using lasers to cut out the shape of the waveform of sounds. He uses a sound editing software, records some human sound such as yawn, atchoum, giggle, wow, and the sound of church bell etc. The software will then be able to plot out the sound waves on the screen, which can then be fed into a laser cutter to cut out the shape of the waveform on a ring. Just say the word “Yes I Do” and make a special wedding ring for your wedding ceremony. Or say anything you want such as a secret code that can only be encrypted once the soundwave is read.

An interesting idea that should play in the minds of the readers for quite a while. I think this is surely an invention that will do well with the tech industry.

Wifi Vase

Weird but practical ? This is the type of gadget that I would love to have in my home. A wifi that doubles up as a vase. A good looking home ornament that does not stand out or make you look like a geek.

In fact it is a brilliant idea. A wireless router lets your family members surf the Internet through it. But when you leave it at one corner in your living room, it takes up a little space too. If it is just a squarish or awkward-looking box, it may make some eyes unpleasant.

Saudi Arabia based STC has turned their fully functioning wireless router into a vase for your flowers. And of course, to keep your flowers fresh, you have to fill up the “router vase” with water. Some might feel little uncomfortable with feeling up an electronic device with water. But it shall be made water-proof which spilling of water all over it is not an issue here.

“Ding- Dong” there goes the boring sound of the doorbell again. Might just be the neighbours kids playing a prank again. Well cant the doorbell be at least more interesting.

Here comes the bird shaped doorbell which serves as a good replacement for your existing door bell. If you have this installed on your door, you’ll hear the bird call chime. It’s in a shape of a bird, a sparrow, best recommended for the bird lovers, making it cute to greet someone at your door.

The doorbell comes with a 2W speaker that blasts the bird chime. It’s a wireless door bell which installation is super easy as you won’t get into the trouble of dangling wires, and double-sided stickers are ready at the back of it, just tear it off and stick it on. It also comes with a remote which lets you switch on and off its sound. The doorbell needs three AAA batteries, whereas the remote needs one.

2-Way Robot Bear Companion

Many tech companies are trying to create the best robot companion of the future.

MIT is taking the same foot step, making another companion robot for you. This MIT’s robotic teddy bear is called Huggable™. It’s designed to be much more than a fun interactive robotic companion for the lonely geeks. It’s able to be involved as a team member, to participate in a social network to interact with others.

The Huggable is also packed with more hardware than any average bear, such as the entire body is all covered in touch/force/temperature sensors (about 1,500 sensors to be highly interactive). He’s also got cameras behind his eyes, a speaker in his nose, and servo motors etc.

Huggable is also capable of capturing those images, videos, sounds with its eyes and ears, and exchanges the signals with a centrally located server wirelessly for crunching those data.

An interesting feature of this Huggable bear is you can set one bear up and having another slave bear to imitate or reproduce the actions of the master bear. The slave bear copies all the movements of the master bear and a computer is able to tell you where and how the Huggable is being touched, and transmits live video and audio feeds.

I love my chessboard collection. It has been a while since I last saw a chess board that actually lights up. I cant remember the name of the last one. Although I remember that it was much better than this. But here is another chess set that glows for you.

The Glo Chess set by Adam Craft is a great design that earned him the distinction of winning the Student Design Contest held by Velco. This miniature chess set uses Conductive V30 VELCRO that causes each piece to light up as it comes in contact with the board. The travel board itself is battery powered and activates as soon as the board is opened, causing the contacts on each side to come in touch with one another.

2008 LA Auto Show Cars

The number one reason I went to the LA Auto Show was to see exotic cars. I’m not a car nut, not really… I mean, my vehicle of choice (of choice, not necessity) is a 1994 Volvo 940 Wagon. Swedish turbo bricks FTW! But still, exotic cars get my juices flowing just as much as the next guy (or gal), and I spent a significant amount of time at the show doing silly things like measuring the size of the brakes on a Ferrari or repeatedly opening and closing the doors of a Lamborghini. They open UPWARDS, it’s SO COOL! Check out a bunch of pics from the show, after the jump… Click on Gallery to view all the cars..
